MOLINE, Ill. — Twelve firefighters will soon be unemployed and the Moline Fire Department will have to start looking for a new fire chief.
When Ron Miller resigned at Tuesday night’s Moline City Council meeting, it came as an absolute shock to his fellow firefighters. Miller says he doesn’t think the city’s priorities are in the right place, calling the budget approval that would privatize EMS service in Moline, a threat to public safety.
In order to get a handle on a million dollar budget deficit, Moline City Councilors agreed to eliminate 12 firefighter/paramedic positions by July. That also means letting a private company handle ambulance calls.
