ABILENE, Texas — The embattled fire chief has stepped down amid the firefighters association’s calls for his resignation and a more than yearlong consultant’s study of problems in the department.
Brad Fitzer’s resignation Monday was effective immediately. He received a compensation package, but details were not available from city officials.
Fitzer, 42, did not attend Monday’s news conference announcing his resignation and could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
