HOBOKEN, N.J. — The Hoboken Fire Department reinstated a firefighter on Wednesday who was suspended in 2020 after being arrested for embezzling union money, The Jersey Journal reported.

Thomas Aligo was accused of forging over $28,000 in checks between July 2018 and August 2020. On March 3, he pleaded guilty to one count of obstruction and was ordered to pay fees and fines, according to a Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson.

Hoboken Firefighters Union President Tom Worley said that the city decided last week that Aligo could return to work.

“His ability to do his job was never in question,” Worley said.

At the time of the suspension, Aligo’s attorney said that he had been a firefighter for over 22 years.
