MECKLENBERG COUNTY, N.C. — Carolina Volunteer Fire Department will soon take its name off its small second station on Carmel Road, just north of Pineville-Matthews Road.

Chief Todd Passons expects to complete the sale of the property to a new owner by January. The new owner will likely raze the small, metal building, which previously belonged to the Carmel Volunteer Fire Department, which organized in the 1950s as the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department.

The department put the Carmel station and land on the market for about $190,000, Passons said, and the Carolina board was surprised to immediately get a number of offers, for as high as $250,000. But the department finally accepted an offer “in the low $200,000s,” which had guaranteed financing, Passons said.
