WHITEWATER, Mo. — A Missouri died on April 3 while reportedly helping a stranded motorist during severe storms.

Fire Chief Gary Moore of the Whitewater Fire Protection District died while responding to a call about a stranded vehicle, FOX2 NOW reported. Although the exact cause of death has not been confirmed, the Missouri State Highway Patrol told KFVS they believe Moore was helping a motorist in distress at the time.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
