LODD: Veteran Ind. firefighter found unresponsive in firehouse

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Lafayette Fire Department is grieving the loss of veteran firefighter Sergeant John Robinson, who died after being found unresponsive while on duty at Fire Station 9.

According to a social media post from the firefighters’ union, Robinson, 53, had served the department for nearly 30 years.

“Our entire department is grieving the loss of one of our own,” Fire Chief Brian Alkire told FOX 59. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Sergeant Robinson and ask the community to join us in honoring the memory of this brave firefighter, who gave everything in service to others.”

The cause and nature of Robinson’s death have not been released.

The department is working with the Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office, the National Firefighters Association and IAFF as funeral arrangements are being planned.
