Ore. wildland firefighter dies after preparedness activity

Firefighter Daniel Foley was assigned to Fremont-Winema National Forest

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — The U.S. Forest Service reported the death of a firefighter assigned to the Fremont-Winema National Forest.

The firefighter had been identified as Daniel Foley. WKBW reported. The 27-year-old died after completing a routine preparedness activity, according to the report.

Foley started as a junior firefighter with the Twin District Volunteer Fire Company in Lancaster, N.Y., and became an active firefighter in 2014.

Foley later worked as an EMT with AMR and a professional firefighter in Fauquier County, Va. Returning to Lancaster, he worked at the Buffalo VA Hospital before joining the U.S. Forest Service Wildland Firefighters.
