A 19-year veteran of the Denver Fire Department died in the line of duty after experiencing a medical emergency.

DENVER — A firefighter died in the line of duty this week.

A 42-year-old member of the Denver Fire Department was transported to the hospital on Monday afternoon after experiencing a cardiac event while at work, the Denver Fire Department said in a statement.

The 19-year DFD veteran did not regain consciousness, and later died.

“The entire Denver Fire Department is reeling from this loss, and we extend our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of our brother who passed away,” Fire Chief Desmond Fulton said in a statement. “We ask for privacy at this time as we deal with this terrible, unexpected tragedy.”

The name of the fallen firefighter was not released; this story will be updated as more information becomes available.
