Captain Earnest McDuffie was running at a park when he collapsed before being transported to the hospital

HINESVILLE, Ga. — A fire captain died Tuesday after becoming unconscious during a required physical fitness training session.

According to the USFA, Hinesville Fire Department Captain Earnest McDuffie, 51, was running at a park when he collapsed and became unconscious.

Colleagues immediately administered CPR before Capt. McDuffie was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

“We at the Hinesville Police Department are saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Hinesville Fire Department Captain Earnest “Moe” McDuffie,” the Hinesville Police Department said on Facebook. “He was a friend to all he met and respected by all who worked with him. Please join us in offering our condolences to Captain McDuffie’s family and our brothers and sisters at the Hinesville Fire Department.”
