DENTON COUNTY, Texas — A witness who saw a firefighter that damaged two U.S. flags put up to remember 9/11 said he was intoxicated at a bar on the night of the incident.

Star-Telegram reported that two witnesses identified the suspect as seven-year veteran Fort Worth Fire Department firefighter Michael Wagemann as the man in a surveillance video who ripped down two U.S. flags at the county courthouse.

A witness also said she saw him at a bar the night of the incident and said he was “intoxicated and agitated” before allegedly ripping down the flags, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Denton County Sheriff’s Department investigator Kincy Lloyd said a credit card traced to Wagemann was shown on file at the bar until 1 a.m. the night of the incident.

Wagemann turned himself in to police, according to court records.
