Firefighter makes cards, website to help recovering opioid addicts

Michael Dunn made cards with the phone numbers of addiction centers and group homes; a website also gives patients more resources

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — A firefighter who wondered about his patients after overdose calls created cards and a website for recovering opioid addicts.

ABC Action News reported that Cedar Hammock firefighter Michael Dunn wanted to help people get clean. As a result, he made cards with the phone numbers of addiction centers and group homes.

“We would get these calls and save their lives and essentially jump back into the fire truck and leave for the next one,” Dunn said.

Dunn also started a website to give patients even more resources. Firefighters across Manatee County hand out the cards, hoping to help lower overdose numbers in the county.

“These cards work, so that gives me fuel for what I’m doing,” Dunn said.
