TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — A fire captain and deputy were injured Wednesday after a series of crashes unfolded on a rural highway.
A deputy’s vehicle was initially struck when another driver lost control and crashed head-on into the patrol car, reported the Record Eagle.
Firefighters responded to the crash and extricated the deputy; he was transported to a medical facility. The other driver was uninjured.
However, a second car crashed at the scene and struck Grand Traverse Rural fire captain Tim Arbenowski. He was transported to the hospital.
“He is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery,” Fire Chief Theo Weber said.
Officials said the snowy weather has made for unsafe driving conditions and has prompted an increase in crashes.
“Just be aware that people are there helping during the accident and they need to slow down and give them space,” Chief Weber said.
