HOUSTON — A group of firefighters from Wisconsin volunteered to help Houston firefighters rebuild their homes after Hurricane Harvey.
ABC13 reported that when they heard about the struggle more than 150 firefighters and their families were going through, a group of 25 firefighters made the drive south to help rebuild the homes.
The first morning the group was in Houston, they quickly set to work on a senior fire inspector’s home that saw around 10 inches of flooding in the storm.
“These people, not only are they worried about the community and helping everybody else, they’re worried about their own houses,” a firefighter from the group said. “They’re at work and they have been affected, if not equally, more than anybody else has.”
“It really hit home to know how deep the brotherhood goes, all the way from Wisconsin, and it’s very touching,” a Houston firefighter said.
The firefighters plan to stay for the next few days to help with repairs.
