Firefighters install ramp for colleague who lost leg

Cool Springs Volunteer Fire Department Asst. Chief Ray Elmore, who lost his leg in a motorcycle crash, will return home to a new ramp thanks to his colleagues

COOL SPRINGS, N.C. — A group of firefighters installed a new ramp at the home of their assistant chief, who lost his leg in a crash.

FOX46 reported that Cool Springs Volunteer Fire Department firefighters installed a ramp for Asst. Chief Ray Elmore to return home to after his leg was amputated due to injuries he suffered in a motorcycle crash.

Elmore has been in the hospital for over a month after a vehicle crossed the center line of a road and crashed into his motorcycle. He was also treated for severe injuries to his arm, pelvis and trachea, according to Statesville Record and Landmark.

The ramp was donated by Carolina RampIt Solutions and Purple Heart Homes, and Elmore’s son, Logan, said the kindness has been welcomed and appreciated.

Chief Andy Webster said he is looking forward to having Elmore back on duty.
