WASHINGTON — Six people were injured after a pedestrian bridge crashed down onto a highway in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday afternoon.

The bridge, which had a clearance of 14 feet, collapsed onto cars traveling on DC-295.

DC Fire & EMS crews arrived on scene to assess injuries and transport patients to a local hospital, Patch.com reported.

Investigators believe a truck’s collision with the bridge caused it to collapse, despite which receiving a 4, or “poor” rating in May on a scale of 1 to 9.

“Everything we see in the accident scene right now leads to this being a collision pulling the bridge off its mooring,” Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Christopher Geldart said.
