Firefighters rescue man from burning apartment

Investigators believe unattended cooking caused the blaze

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Firefighters rescued a man from his burning apartment in Montgomery County Friday evening.

The fire broke out at around 8 p.m. in the second-floor apartment at 8606 Carroll Avenue in Takoma Park. Investigators say that the blaze was caused by an unattended pot of food that was left on a stove.

The 59-year-old man was pulled from the apartment and taken to a local hospital, where he is listed in serious condition.
