ARGONIA, Kan. — Raging floodwaters claimed the life of an Argonia, Kan., volunteer firefighter Saturday night after he attempted to save eight people, three of them emergency workers.
Dennis Rhodes, 47, was killed when he walked out into the Chikaskia River to the trapped victims.
After entering the river, Rhodes lost his balance and was swept underwater by the current. He was found by emergency workers, who brought him back to shore, performed CPR and transported him to an area hospital.
