CHICAGO — A month ago, Chicago firefighter David Doyle carried little Diamond Jones’ limp, soot-covered body out of a burning building on the West Side.

As Doyle hurried down the fire escape clutching the gasping toddler, he prayed she wouldn’t die.

On Wednesday, Doyle got to see that Diamond not only survived, but, thanks in large part to his bravery, she has made a complete recovery.

Diamond and her parents were at the firehouse at 10 N. Leavitt to thank Doyle and his fellow firefighters.

And Doyle was thrilled to see Diamond.

“To see her in her mom’s arms, it’s an amazing feeling,” Doyle said. “It’s very rewarding.”

Doyle rescued Diamond on Oct. 6 from the second floor of a two-story building in the 2700 block of West Wilcox in the Garfield Park neighborhood.

Diamond’s mother, Myshawn Williams, was on the first floor and was unable to get back to her daughter because of the smoke, she said Wednesday.

Diamond seemed more interested in the bright lights of the TV cameras than the reunion with Doyle, but Williams said she’ll make sure Doyle’s bravery isn’t forgotten.

“I’ll tell [Diamond] when she’s older about the man who saved her,” Williams said.
