EASTON, Pa. — Two Allentown men were plucked from the Delaware River on Saturday afternoon after their small boat capsized, an Easton fire official said.
Deputy Fire Chief John Price said Michael Glose and Sam Brewer, both 56, were rescued a short time after their 12-foot boat overturned about 2:20 p.m. Price said the incident happened near the forks of the Lehigh and Delaware rivers.
The men suffered hypothermia because of the chilly water temperatures, which were estimated in the 40s, Price said. The men were taken to an area hospital for treatment, he said.
Price said one man was rescued by a good Samaritan fisherman, while the other was rescued by city fire crews. A Pennsylvania Water Rescue crew also aided in the rescue and later recovered the boat.
Price said the men had launched their boat a short time before the accident. Price described the boat as a craft slightly larger than a canoe but smaller than a rowboat. It also has a small outboard motor, Price said.
