BOERUM HILL, N.Y. — A probationary firefighter is being hailed a hero after rescuing a 5-month-old baby from a house fire.
WABC reported that two of the firefighters, Jordan Sullivan and Bryan Kelley, who responded to the Sunday blaze saved the lives of an 8-year-old girl and a 5-month-old boy. For firefighter Sullivan, it was his very first fire call.
“It wasn’t visible in there, so I was feeling for him,” firefighter Sullivan said.
Firefighter Sullivan crawled on the ground and found the baby in a bedroom, where he was critical, according to the report. Firefighter Kelley entered another bedroom where the 8-year-old was trapped.
“It’s an unbelievable experience,” firefighter Sullivan said. “It’s an honor to be able to serve the community. I still have a lot to learn.”
A 22-year-old man is in custody for allegedly setting the fire and arson charges are pending, according to the report.
