CHICAGO — An off-duty Chicago firefighter is in stable condition after being shot during an attempted robbery.
The 40-year-old firefighter was inside a residence when he noticed three people trying to break into his car, FOX 32 Chicago reported.
Chicago police officials told FOX 32 that when the firefighter went to confront the suspects, one of the suspects started shooting in his direction. The firefighter was wounded several times.
He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was initially listed in critical condition.
Authorities state his condition is now stabilized.
The suspects fled the scene.
