SAN DIEGO — Eric Hille, an engineer with the San Miguel Fire Department, has established a volunteer relief effort to help Ukrainian first responders, Fox 5 reported.

An Army veteran who served with Ukrainian military members as a NATO peacekeeper, Hille has been raising funds, gathering volunteers and collecting equipment.

“We’re there to provide aid and rescue and emergency services,” Hille told FOX 5 Thursday. “To help our brother firefighters over there who are overworked, in some hostile conditions and don’t have the resources or equipment they need.”

The team plans to go to Ukraine for two weeks starting before April. The fundraising goal is $250,000, and donations can be made via FundtheFirst.
