BIBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cartons of Cheez Whiz, Velveeta and Polly-O ricotta spilled out of an overturned tractor trailer early Monday morning off Interstate 75.

Just after 4:30 a.m., the 18-wheeler flipped over on its top, just off the exit ramp of I-75 South at Sardis Church Road in south Bibb County.

When Macon-Bibb County firefighters arrived, they found Curtis Jacobs trapped in the mangled cab.

Crews used the “jaws of life” to rescue the 49-year-old man.

“We had to pop the door and get him out from the inside, there. He was tangled up on the inside and we were able to pull him free once we got the door open,” Battalion Fire Chief Ronnie Napier said.

Jacobs was wedged between the seats and apparently escaped serious injury.

“Miraculously, he didn’t have a scratch on him. It was absolutely amazing,” Napier said.

He was taken by ambulance to Medical Center, Navicent Health.

A wrecker crew was on the scene shortly after the accident and began clearing the cargo of groceries that spilled onto the grass.

One of the exit lanes was temporarily blocked, but the pre-dawn traffic on the interstate kept moving as the truck was off the highway.
