PORTAGE, Wis. — Volunteers were cleaning up Sunday after a lightning strike apparently caused a fire at a Portage museum that preserves Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Zona Gale’s study.
Flames were spotted Saturday night in the second floor of the Museum at the Portage. It wasn’t immediately clear how severe the damage was, but no injuries were reported in the fire.
The Portage Historical Society tweeted that the fire was “above Zona’s study.”
The structure was home to William L. and Zona Gale Breese. It was donated to the city of Portage in 1942.
