CLOVER, S.C. — A South Carolina volunteer firefighter has been charged for impersonating a police officer in a traffic stop.

Police say an officer found David Charles Williams, 29, beside a large white truck with flashing red and white lights, according to the Associated Press. A small car was in front of the truck.

A 17-year-old girl told police she thought Williams was a police officer and that he had shouted profanities at her and questioned her driving.

Firefighter Williams said the car had passed his truck across a double yellow line and sped away, according to the article. Williams said he caught up and turned on the truck lights.

Williams said he had yelled at the girl and started flashing the lights because she had crossed in front of him on the road and sped away. Williams said he then caught up and turned on the truck lights.

It is unclear if Williams has a lawyer.
