BEIJING — The number of firefighters killed in a forest fire in China’s south-west Sichuan province has climbed to 30, state media said on Monday.
Thirty people had gone missing after a forest fire which broke out Saturday in Muli – a Tibetan autonomous county – erupted again on Sunday because of a sudden change in the wind direction, the Ministry of Emergency Management said.
On Sunday, a total of 689 people were battling the blaze at an altitude of 3,800 meters above sea level, according to state broadcaster CGTN.
