RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — A small brush fire burned near the 15 Freeway north of Foothill Boulevard early Monday after a vehicle veered off the freeway into an embankment.
The driver, the only person in the car, escaped uninjured, according to the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department.
The accident happened at around 12:30 a.m. on the northbound freeway.
The vehicle had rolled over in the embankment and caught fire.
The blaze led to a vegetation fire covering more than 100 yards between the freeway and nearby apartments, said Battalion Chief Jim Curatalo.
Three fire engines were on scene to put out the fire.
Officials believe the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
