LITTLE COMPTON, R.I. — A family whose house was on fire was forced to drive to the fire department to get help after they could not call 911.
Little Compton Fire Department Chief Richard Petrin told WPRI that the family had lost power and was unable to use their landlines, and did not have service on their cellphones.
Chief Petrin said the flames were shooting out of the garage roof by the time a crew could respond, but firefighters were able to save the rest of the home by keeping the fire contained.
No injuries were reported, but Chief Petrin said the garage and one car were completely destroyed.
The incident is currently under investigation.
