MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Miami-Dade fire officials announced that three employees have been placed on administrative leave pending the completion of a death investigation from a training exercise in June.

Fabian Camero died in the hospital after a blaze during an unsanctioned training exercise. He was the son of Firefighter Francisco Camero, but not an employee of the fire department.

Fabian was brought to the training exercise by his father, where sources told WSVN that safety rules were not followed. The training turned tragic when someone added too much fuel to what was supposed to be a small tar pot fire for demonstration.

Miami-Dade County’s Chief of Public Safety said the training was not a department-sanctioned event

The Miami-Dade Police Department’s Homicide Bureau is now leading the death investigation, while arson detectives and the Florida State Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.

“We are all deeply, deeply concerned and we are investigating, the state is investigating, our police department is investigating and our Internal Affairs department,” Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said.

Miami-Dade County’s Chief of Public Safety confirmed to NBC6 that the training exercise was unauthorized.
