Neb. firefighters rescue 120-pound dog from tree

It took two departments 30 minutes to free the Great Dane using rope, harness and tarp

LOUISVILLE, Neb. — Her owners can only speculate that she must have been chasing a squirrel when the 120-pound Great Dane bounded 20 feet up a tree.

And getting down is never quite as easy as getting up. So it was up to two volunteer fire departments to engineer a rescue, according to 1011Now.com. Firefighters from the Elmwood and Plattsmouth volunteer fire departments spent 30 minutes coming up with a plan to free the dog.

After trying to use a harness, they ended up going old school — the harness gave way and she was caught by firefighters with a tarp.

The dog was a little cold, but otherwise unharmed.

Plattsmouth firefighter Jon Hardy told the station that he initially thought the call was a hoax. “I thought they were just having a little fun with us,” he said. In the end, the dog, “walked away wagging her tail.”
