CLEARWATER, Fla. — It’s not everyday we get the opportunity to witness our nation’s mascot in the wild. So when Clearwater firefighters and police officers received a call about an injured bald eagle, well, it was both their job and patriotic duty to show up.
The bald eagle was found perched in the middle of a road Wednesday morning, where police say it was likely struck by a car. The bird was potentially trying to feed on or grab a dead animal.
Wildlife rescue specialists captured the eagle after it hopped off the side of the road; it was then transported to a bird sanctuary. Firefighters said the bald eagle appeared to have injured its right wing.
