RENSSELAER, N.Y. — A woman was given a glimmer of hope after losing almost everything in a fire when firefighters were able to recover her life savings.
News10 reported that Brenda McClain waited anxiously for firefighters to return to the scene the day after her apartment was destroyed in a massive blaze.
“I didn’t sleep at all last night,” McClain said. “I just sat in my car pondering over everything that has happened. Just wondering, where do you go from here?”
Although McClain feared most of her belongings were destroyed, she hoped firefighters would be able to recover her most valuable possession: a hidden bag containing her life savings.
“I’m hoping that they will go in, because there’s one particular thing that I really want and it’s … hidden in my house,” McClain said. “So I’m hoping that it didn’t get burnt up.”
Firefighters returned to the scene and were able to locate and recover her savings, and she said it gave her a glimmer of hope through the difficult time.
“A lot of times your faith is tested. But you just gotta trust God and believe that everything is going to work out,” McClain said. “You have to look at the bright side of things. Nobody lost their life and that’s a blessing.”
