BALTIMORE — Two Baltimore Fire Department truck companies have now officially been disbanded.

For decades the so-called “Hotel Montford” — the fire station on Montford Avenue in East Baltimore — housed Truck 15, which was equipped with a ladder that allowed it to rescue people trapped on upper floors. The new tenant, Engine 33, is not a ladder truck.

“In any emergency situation you don’t know when you’re going to need that ladder. So why do that. Then it will take five or 10 minutes for another ladder truck to come all the way from downtown to get up here. And somebody could be dead then,” said Quentin Harris, who lives nearby.
