NY station fire likely caused by fire truck spark

Firefighters from four departments responded to the fire, which sent one firefighter the hospital for smoke inhalation

VICTOR, N.Y. — A rig briefly caught fire inside a fire station before firefighters put out the blaze Monday.

Two volunteer firefighters are credited with discovering the fire, who then sounded a fire alarm and called for assistance. First-due crews found heavy white smoke in the truck bays, where a rig was on fire, reported the Victor Post.

Fire Chief Sean McAdoo immediately called for help from four neighboring fire departments.

The fire was extinguished in half hour, which was limited to the engine compartment of the rig.

McAdoo said there was no damage to the actual structure, although the rig will be out of service. All of the other rigs were removed from the bay undamaged.

“We had fire dripping out of the engine compartment, so it was something in the motor,” McAdoo said. “It was something in the engine, either an electrical or mechanical component.”

The fuel tank, located in the back of the truck, was not affected by the fire.

One firefighter was transported to the hospital for potential smoke inhalation.
