FLORENCE, N.J. — Instead of waking up in his own bed, Brian Richardson opened his eyes in a hospital with no idea what he was doing there.
“I knew I was alive,” he said. “I did a quick scan of my arms and legs to see if they were there. I didn’t understand what was going on, but I figured it might have something to do with a fire.”
He was right. In May, Richardson, 33, was one of seven firefighters injured when a tractor-trailer hauling oranges caught fire on Interstate 295.
