SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah — Saratoga Springs Fire Chief Mike Penovich drowned when his truck plunged into Deer Creek Reservoir on July 5.

Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Preston Raban said preliminary autopsy results showed no other medical condition connected to the chief’s death. Raban said a toxicology report is pending.

Penovich, who had attended a meeting in Wasatch County, was traveling southbound at the top of Provo Canyon when his truck veered off the road and down an 80-foot embankment into the reservoir, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

Penovich’s funeral is scheduled for noon today in the American Fork LDS Tabernacle. The public is invited to attend.
