SADDLE BROOK, N.J. — A former volunteer fire chief was charged with sexually assaulting a woman last Saturday.
Robert Meyers, 40, was arrested after a woman who arrived at a local hospital said she was assaulted at a home, reported nj.com. Officials said the hospital notified police after the allegations were made.
Meyers was charged with second-degree sexual assault and third-degree terroristic threats. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 2 after posting a $25,000 bail.
Saddle Brook Police Chief Robert Jugler told the Record Tuesday that Meyers agreed to take a voluntary leave of absence while the charges are pending.
Meyers previously served as the town’s fire chief in 2012 and 2013, but continued working for the department as a firefighter.
