PIKE COUNTY, Ga. — A retired fire chief rushed to help a woman who had crashed her car, only to be arrested afterward.
WSB Radio reported that retired Griffin Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Emory Leroy Rickerson parked his truck to aid a woman who had crashed her car. He found the woman slumped over and unresponsive; he treated her before EMS arrived on scene.
When police and an EMS crew arrived, Rickerson was asked to move his truck so that the crew could treat the woman.
Police said Rickerson refused three times, saying “I don’t care who you are. You can take me to jail, but I’m not moving my vehicle or leaving this patient right now.”
Rickerson said a bystander moved his truck for him as he continued to treat the patient.
Sgt. R.S. Jeter said Rickerson became “belligerent and kept talking over” police as they tried to reason with him, and he was arrested for obstruction of an officer.
