The firefighters were taken to a hospital and were reported in stable condition; officials are investigating the fire as a possible arson

WINNIPEG, Manitoba — After responding to a fire, four firefighters were taken to the hospital Saturday night for burns and other injuries.

According to ChrisD.ca, a new condominium construction site was engulfed in flames when emergency crews responded around 3:45 a.m. A home next to the site was also damaged. Residents of the homes and others living nearby were evacuated from the area.

Alex Forrest, President of the United Firefighters of Winnipeg, said two people were rescued and four firefighters suffered from burns while searching for victims.

Forrest told FirefighterCloseCalls.com that, “Unfortunately during this fire, it was a tremendously hard fire, four firefighters were burned and sustained injuries. But I believe they are at the hospital in stable condition.”

Witnesses told police they saw two suspects in the area before the fire started.
