RIO DELL, Calif. — A member of the Rio Dell Volunteer Fire Department and his two children lost all their personal belongings in a house fire Thursday night that the department’s assistant chief declared suspicious.

Assistant Fire Chief Ryan Heussler said his was the first unit to arrive at the rental house around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Dixie and Third avenues.

“It was fully involved when I got there,” Heussler said. By that time, volunteer firefighter Fred Adams had gotten out. His 10-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son were staying elsewhere that night, the assistant fire chief said.
