TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — An arrest has been made in an arson that destroyed the former Shattered Nightmares Haunted House on Third Avenue near 10th Street in April.

Michael Lehman, 18, was set to appear in Vigo Juvenile Court on the arson charge on Wednesday. He was arrested late Tuesday by Terre Haute Police.

Arson investigator Norm Loudermilk of the Terre Haute Fire Department told the Tribune-Star that Lehman was 17 years old when the fire occurred, but turned 18 about a month later. Loudermilk said the case against Lehman might be transferred to adult court.

The building at 1011 Third Ave. spanned almost the entire block between 10th Street and railroad tracks. It was used as a storage warehouse for tenants such as a towing company and a discount store. It was also home to Shattered Nightmares Haunted House, a seasonal attraction for adults and kids.

Some nearby structures were damaged by the heat of the blaze. One house across the street had melted aluminum siding.

Shattered Nightmares has since relocated to a building off South Seventh Street.
