BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. — Butte County sheriff’s officials seek to find a man suspected of stealing equipment from a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection station.
Deputies responded to Cal Fire Station No. 25 on Durham Pentz Road, near Butte College, about 8:30 a.m. Thursday regarding a reported burglary. During the investigation, it was discovered that the intruder had removed approximately $4,000 worth of equipment and supplies from the station, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. Surveillance cameras at the fire station captured the suspect’s image and he was identified by deputies as Freidrich “Fred” Muniaerts, 44, of Yankee Hill.
Deputies and Cal Fire prevention officers went to Muniaerts’ residence and found items from the burglary, as well as items stolen in a previous burglary in May. Items stolen from other areas in Butte County also were recovered, and arrangements were made to return them to their owners, sheriff’s officials said.
Muniaerts was not found. The Sheriff’s Office released a photo of him, but noted that his hair may be shorter now.
Sheriff’s officials ask anyone with information regarding Muniaerts whereabouts to call the Butte County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 538-7322.
