Boy, 6, battling liver cancer becomes firefighter for a day

Cameron Hill rode in the fire truck and squirted the fire hose back at the station

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Firefighters in Thomasville are working on a different kind of rescue. They’re helping a 7-year-old with cancer cross items off his bucket list.

Cameron Hill is battling an illness that can’t be cured. When he was four years old, he was diagnosed with liver cancer. This week, he’s celebrating his seventh birthday and spending time with his new best friend, Fair Grove Fire Department Lieutenant Jake Connor. Connor and his fellow firefighters are helping Cameron do everything on his bucket list.

“My Dad is a pilot and one of the ladies said that he would like to go on a plane ride. So I said that’s no problem. And he went on a plane ride the next day,” Connor said. They took Cameron to meet two of his favorite race car drivers, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Bobby Labonte.
