The brawl followed several one-on-one battles, with referees struggling to maintain control. The game was tied 3-3 in the second when benches cleared, leading to a 25-minute delay while refs assessed penalties and ejections.

The NYPD got the win in the game, 8-5, breaking a 5-year FDNY win streak. FDNY holds a record of 23-16-2 over the NYPD in the series.
