PETERSBURG, Va. — Two firefighters were injured after a home partially collapsed, resulting in one almost being crushed.
NBC12 reported that firefighters were battling a house fire when part of the home collapsed, and the front porch fell on the firefighters.
“We just heard a loud pack. I just looked up and saw everything fall on top of me,” firefighter Cody Edlin said.
Edlin became trapped in the rubble. He said he barely remembers the incident, because it all happened so fast.
“We had to rescue one of our own so the entire [plan] had to change from defensive to rescue. When the roof collapsed, within one minute the guys had gone in and actually pulled them to safety and within one minute they were being treated by an ambulance,” Interim Battalion Chief Danny Partin said.
Both firefighters are back on the job and fully recovered.
