KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It has been more than three weeks since a fight downtown left a Kansas City firefighter dead and a police officer badly beaten.
The fire dispatch tapes have been released, and they give a new look into how the investigation unfolded. Investigators say that during a dispute over cab fare, firefighter Anthony Bruno attacked officer Donald Hubbard. In fire dispatch recordings obtained by KCTV5, a medic describes what happened.
“Getting punched multiple times in the face. He said he nearly lost consciousness. He has a large laceration. He said he was seeing stars. He was nearly unconscious but didn’t go completely out,” the recording states. The recordings also reveal some confusion at the scene. At first, dispatchers believe the officer was shot instead of the firefighter.
