MONROEVILLE, Pa. — The second-annual Food Truck-a-Palooza will roll into Monroeville this weekend and some of the proceeds will help out a volunteer fire station.
GoodTaste! Pittsburgh Owner Dee Weinberg said she expects this year’s event to be bigger and better with 32 food trucks from around the region gathering at the Monroeville Convention Center.
After seeing success with its first outdoor food truck event in 2016, Weinberg said she wanted to try something different. The first event at the Waterfront’s Pump House drew hundreds with 20 food trucks, three live bands and a children’s play area.
“We’ve been doing food shows for (almost) 15 years. Last year we decided to push the envelope a little bit -- let’s do an indoor food truck event,” she said, adding that it was the first of its kind in the region.
The first indoor food truck event drew 3,000 people, 28 food trucks and $2,000 was donated to Monroeville Volunteer Fire Station #6. Weinberg will donate a portion of the proceeds again the the fire station.
Corye Ramsey, the station’s fire chief, said he is appreciative of the opportunity to receive donations.
“Any amount of money helps a volunteer fire company,” he said, adding some firefighters from the station will also be at the event to collect donations by passing around a boot and selling 50/50 raffle tickets.
Weinberg said GoodTaste! Pittsburgh will host another outdoor food truck festival sometime this summer or fall.
Food trucks that will participate in this weekend’s Food Truck-a-Palooza include Burgh Bites, Fantastic Food, South Side BBQ, Doce Taqueria, PHG Halal Foods and others. For a full listing, visit the event’s Facebook page.
