CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man has been arrested in connection to the recent rash of thefts from vehicles at several fire stations in two different counties in North Carolina.
Myfox8.com reported the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested Johnny Bing, 26, and charged him with two counts of possession of a firearm, two counts of possession of stolen property, felonious receiving stolen property, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana.
Bing faces 17 more charges for the thefts at the fire stations in Greensboro.
Investigators found Bing’s vehicle in a mall parking lot in Charlotte and searched the vehicle. The search turned up a firearm that had been stolen from a vehicle in Greensboro on Feb. 23.
Bing and his passenger, Ernestine Lockwood, were both taken into custody by the Charlotte police.
Lockwood was charged with two counts of possession of stolen property and served outstanding warrants unrelated to this case.
The investigation is ongoing, but police believe Bing most likely acted alone in the Greensboro and Charlotte fire station thefts. More than a dozen firefighter vehicles were broken into while they were either sleeping or on a call.
