EDON, Ohio — Things have begun to return to normal at the Florence Township Fire Department. The station lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in equipment and part of its building during a fire there earlier this month.
The fire happened back on Sunday, May 3. The fire destroyed five fire apparatuses, countless firefighting equipment, and a good piece of the station building. Fire Chief Jay Klingler estimated a couple days after the fire that the damage totaled more than $1.5 million.
Klingler said earlier this month he hoped to have a loaner fire engine a couple days later. That happened when the Bryan City Fire Department lent a hand. “We had a truck and it was actually a reserve piece for us,” said Byran Fire Chief Bruce Siders. “Anytime one fire department needs help, they just call a neighboring department and they’re there for them. It’s what we all do.”
