ELIZABETH, N.J. — A retired fire chief died Friday after suffering a heart attack at a fire scene.
Retired Elizabeth Fire Chief Louis Kelly, 70, was transported to the hospital Dec. 8 after collapsing while at the scene of a house fire, reported Firefighter Close Calls.
Chief Kelly served for 34 years; he was a known leader in the state’s fire service community. He was currently serving as Union County’s mutual-aid coordinator.
Funeral arrangements are currently being made, according to New Jersey 12. As his last request, Chief Kelly asked that all donations made in his name are directed to the New Jersey Firemen’s Home and the St. Barnabus Children’s Burn Camp.
